There is Laundry to be Done, 2026

THE STORY:

This was my first painting of the new year and I approached it very differently than I do most of my work. Often I have a beautiful scene or sunset in my mind that I want to re-create the feeling of. Sometimes I know the colors and general composition that I want to do. This painting was a glorious experiment in 'what if I really just played with the paint'? So I went one or two colors at a time, did whatever occurred to me in the moment without questioning it too much (Ohh! paint lots of jellyfish in different colors. Uh what? Ok I guess I'll try it).  It is a painting that I have spent a lot of time staring at. I held myself back and stopped painting a little earlier than perhaps I normally would as I feel like sometime more is just too much. This painting has been in my living room now for sometime and I have to say the feeling it brings to the room is magical. Everyone that walks has a thought or comment. This painting is interesting to me and holds my attention because in many ways it feels a bit like a fascinating stranger. I keep noticing things about it that I can't remember putting there. I have a sneaking suspicion that using play may revolutionize my work.
