THE STORY:

Working on the Feng Shui of my house with a lovely friend, who is a Feng Shui from Beijing, China. She said I needed 'lots of colorful, beautiful, flowers' on a particular wall of my house. Though unusual for me I selected to paint on un-sealed or gessoed linen. The paint soaked in and I melted together a warm bed of sunny yellows, happy oranges and intense reds faded into peachy pinks. The undercoat was so pretty that I was actually tempted to call it complete. So I hung it for a while. It wasn't until I noticed a few days later how pretty the pallet I had used to mix the paints for it was. I attached a little string and hung it in the white hallway right outside my bedroom so that I saw it many times a day. Seeing that accidentally so beautiful palette and my lush, soft giant canvas in the same colors, that it snapped together. I wanted to try to recreate the interest of the palette in this painting. VERY hard to do. I set myself up outside in the spectacular sunshine, looking at the ocean and over several days painted my heart out. It was glorious. I was finally living what I had dreamed of for so long and where I had worked so hard to get to.  And all those wonderful feelings and gratitude must have gone right into the paint because when I was done something truly wonderful had emerged.
